Don Trout

Don began drawing in early childhood. While in gradeschool, he won a Saturday scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. Don earned a degree in fine art from the University of Kansas City and on graduating, was drafted into the Army. On completion of military service he moved to California and secured a job with Lockheed as a technical illustrator. Using the GI Bill, he attended night school classes at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. While in the aerospace field he held positions of technical illustrator, commercial artist, and finally art director of an in-house art group. Don enjoys exploring a wide range of styles in his work. He has always painted representational subject matter but in recent years has begun to use more mixed media, in particular rice paper collage, and is now using those materials on canvas in combination with acrylic metallic paints. Don has won many first place and best of show awards and sold to private collections.

Don turned to teaching art after early retirement in 1991. Since that time he has taught drawing and painting classes forTheLearning Tree, Mission College's Comunity education Program, watercolor for Santa Clarita Parks and Recreation and a mixed media workshop for Glendale Parks and Recreation in Southern California. Since January 2008 he devotes his time to painting and a small number of private students in his Canyon Country studio.
